Completing a Social Media Analysis with Netbase

Set your Social Media Goals:

Make it clear to your audience what your objectives are as a company. Clear and established goals are something anyone can get behind and you gain support from people who share a like mind with your company.

These goals could include:

  • Targeting new or specific customers
  • Raising awareness of your brand
  • Increasing sales
  • Providing customer service

Whatever you think will help your business, set that goal and let your potential customers know.

Define your Target Market:

You don’t have a business if you don’t have customers and it’s not to just sell to the general public. You have to know who you’re selling to. What race they? What gender are they? How old are they? Most importantly, what internet are they using the most?

Customers aren’t looking for you at first; you have to find them and place your products where they are. Remember, nobody knows what they want they want until they’ve seen it. Put yourself out there and let your customers see your product.

Conduct a SWOT Analysis:

“SWOT” stands for the four aspects of your company that you should become very familiar with and look for in your social media analysis. They are:

  • Strengths-The areas where your business excels. Use them to your advantage.
  • Weaknesses-The areas where your company struggles. Try to improve these to the best of your ability.
  • Opportunities-This could be any number of things that will help your business. Take advantage every these as much as you can.

Make an analysis of these four things and then make decisions based on what you’ve found.

Analyze Your Competitors:

Competition is the heart and soul of capitalism, encouraging a free market and forcing businesses to provide a quality product to their customers.

This means that your competition is doing everything in their power to attract customers and the more customers they have, the less you have.

Therefore, an effective battle plan would be to know your enemy, especially internet wise. What social media are they using and how much of a following are they gaining? Take notes, because they might be onto something. You’ve learned their strategy, find ways to improve upon it, rather than replicate it.

Critique Your Website:

Put yourself into the perspective of your customers and think “Would this be attractive to me as a customer?”. View every aspect of your site and come to a conclusion. If the answer is “no”, make changes.

Be to sure to look at your site’s analytics and see how much traffic you’re getting and which pages are getting it. Remember that everything on your site should be easy to access. Anything your customers could be looking for should be laid out in front of them.

Experiment and see how you can maximize your levels if traffic through your social media. Your social media is your connection to the entire world. Use it effectively.

Perform a Social Media Audit:

This is essentially a test to see how effectively you’re using your social media. Check each profile and see if your branding is consistent and examine the tools you’re using. Optimization is key, so if there’s anything you could be using that could prove to be more effective in growing your business, try it out and see if it works for you.

Every business is different, so don’t be afraid to deviate from typical strategies if you think they will improve traffic and sales. Go crazy; it’s your business after all.
